Final Call for EKA Knife Orders - Due Monday, August 22

Posted on Aug 21 2016 - 11:23pm

I've only received a couple orders for EKA knives on this go round so far.  We have found that the Hatchblade W1 and the Cordblade W9 are particularly popular, but of course you're welcome to order whatever you'd like.  I will accept orders through Monday, August 22.

Popcorn Kickoff Meeting - Friday, August 26 - And More Popcorn Information Too

Posted on Aug 21 2016 - 11:23pm
The Popcorn Kickoff Meeting is Scheduled for Friday, August 26 in the McGivney Room.  Both parent and Scout are required to attend this meeting if their Scout will be selling popcorn.  The following is the information provided by email earlier this summer.  If you have not yet filled in and returned your Popcorn intention form, please do so as soon as possible.

Popcorn is a great opportunity for a scout to earn his own way through scouting. We are a very active troop so the cost of dues, summer camps, high adventure camp, merit badges and the gear needed for these activities can begin to add up. I have attached a popcorn fact sheet that will give you even more information, including possible sales goals.  For example, if you want your Scout to earn enough to pay for Summer Camp, he needs to sell at least $1300 of Popcorn.  The opportunity for him to learn the value and responsibility of helping to pay for his activities is priceless and will provide much more than just the financial benefit. They learn public speaking, presentation skills, business skills (yes selling popcorn is like a personal business).  It is even possible to complete requirements towards earning merit badges such as Communications, Entrepreneurship, Computer, Public Speaking and Salesmanship.

With so many scouts in the troop we want to ensure all Scouts understand this opportunity and notify us of their decision for participation using the attached commitment form.  I have attached an agreement that ALL SCOUTS AND PARENTS must read, select their choices and then both scout and parent must sign the agreement form which should have been submitted at the troop meeting on Thursday, July 28th. The first popcorn order has already been placed, so if I did not have your form already, I will not be able to ensure we have inventory on hand for selling door to door with inventory and you may have to wait until we place the next order in September.

Please ensure that you read and understand the agreement for popcorn with your son. You will be required to meet the commitments which the scout and the family make. The choices this year are:

July 28 Troop Meeting

Posted on Jul 24 2016 - 11:51pm

The Troop meeting this week will be held outside near the St Timothy Bus Barn, weather permitting.  We DO NOT have access to the McGivney Room this week.  If there are storms predicted, the leadership will determine whether or not the meeting will be held and will send out an email to let you know of any changes as early as possible.

Wilderness Survival Merit Badge Part 2 - July 30-31

Posted on Jul 24 2016 - 11:51pm

We had 9 Scouts attend part 1 of the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge.  Part 2 will be overnight from Saturday to Sunday, July 30-31 near Winchester, VA.  This merit badge is limited to Scouts who will be 14 or older by the end of 2016; and First Class and above.  It is preferred that they have camping and first aid merit badges - if not, discuss with SM Warsocki before signing up.  Even if you have taken this merit badge before, you're welcome to attend.  It is a good opportunity to hone your skills and assist in training your fellow Scouts.  Must attend both sessions to earn merit badge.
